Our Heritage...
The excise act of 1823 brought the illicit Distillers down from remote hillsides to build real factories, whose produce should soon span the World. Thus the industrialisation reached the Scottish Highlands, particularly along the majestic river Spey. Soon the railways followed - the first stretch opened in 1863 - bringing a steady stream of whisky merchants to the area.
In 1893 an imposing Hotel was build at the confluence of rivers Spey and Fiddich. The Craigellachie railway Hotel, facing the famous Thomas Telford bridge soon became a landmark for Highland hospitality.
The railway fell silent during the 1960 ‘s but walkers can now enjoy a 135 KM stretch of beautiful landscape along the old line.
The very room where those merchants exchanged early samples of Speyside drams now houses the worlds leading selection of Scottish Single malt whiskies.
Respecting the heritage the Hotel has still followed with the times and offers all modern amenities and an exquisite kitchen.
